Mates & Muckers at Westcombe Park

Created by Ann 5 months ago

Who remembers the Mates trade mark of rolled up trouser leg, the special left handed hand shake and the 'down in ones'. Steve was always where there was laughter and fun and the Mates had their share. I believe Dave Thomas was initiated to the Mates on the night when they rescued Billy Weller's Doberman from security duty by climbing over a scrapyard fence with Don Hansford wearing Mary's orange dress. I think Bruce Collins missed the event as he was the 'Overseas Mate'.

The Muckers included Tinker and Steve McGovern, and were a messy shadow of the Mates, but both groups did a great job supporting the bar takings at the club.

When Steve was Social Secretary at Westcombe Park, the Mates were key in helping to organise some wonderful nights with discos in Chislehurst Caves, Race Nights and Wine and Seafood at the club.

For Steve anything was possible - he was always a glass half full, and if anybody could have beaten PSP it would have him.
